Police say that a 17-year-old from Baltimore was driving Glen Burnie resident Nicholas Thomas Battle, 20, near the intersection of Elvaton Road and Tall Pines Court when officers spotted their 2023 Volkswagen Taos, which had been previously reported out of Montgomery County.

The ordeal began at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 in the Western District.

According to a spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, detectives signaled for the teen driver to stop, though he had more nefarious plans in mind, instead kicking the Volkswagen in reverse and ramming the police cruiser with the detective still inside, launching a police pursuit.

The teen then sped away, but was pursued by other officers until he eventually stopped and both he and Battle bailed and attempted to flee on foot until they were taken into custody in the 1000 block of Upton Road in Glen Burnie.

More surprises were in store for officers, who also found a key fob for a stolen 2019 Nissan Altima on the teen, which was recovered on Tall Pines Court in Glen Burnie.

Both Battle and the teen were arrested and charged in connection to the motor vehicle theft and assault on the police officer. No information on their initial court appearance was released by the police.
